If you were to die today, are you 100% sure that Heaven will be your home? With so many unscriptural teachings on Heaven being taught today, sometimes it is hard to find the right answer. But the Bible is very clear "...that ye may know ye have eternal life..." (I John 5:13)
1. Realize that God loves you. In John 3:16 Jesus says, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life."
God loves you and me so much, that He offered His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, as a sacrifice for us.
2. Understand that sin causes all to fall short. Romans 3:23 says, "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God."
Everyone of us is a sinner according to the Bible. Sin, simply put, means to "miss the mark," or "to cause offence contrary to God." When we are honest with ourselves and before God, every one of us would admit that we've, on many occassions gone against God's clear commandments. In addition, this verse tells us, that because of God's perfection, even if we were to only sin one time in our entire life, we'd still fall short of His glory, perfection, as well as His expectation for us.
3. Realize that sin has a price that must be paid. Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord."
Everything in life has a consequence. When we do right, there is a consequence (reward) for doing right, and when we do wrong, there also is a consequence (punishment) for that wrong. According to the Scriptures, our the "wages" (or penalty) for our sin is death. This death is an eternal separation from God in a literal place called Hell. Revelation 20:13-14 "And the sea gave up the dead which were it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death."
While this "death" is the deserved penalty for sin, notice that God does not want you and I to have to spend an eternity in Hell. And, because of His love, He offered the free gift of His only begotten S0n, Jesus Christ, to pay for your sin on the Cross over two thousand years ago.
4. Believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died to pay your price. Romans 5:8 "But God commendeth his love toward us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
Again we see that God loved you and I so much, His own Son was sent to "die" for us.
5. Finally, pray, asking Jesus Christ to be your Savior, and claim His promise of eternal life. Romans 10:13 "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."
Like any gift, it does no good to the person to whom it was given, until they receive the gift. For example, if someone were to purchase you a brand new car, yet you left it on the street, never once getting inside and turning the key, it does you no good. The same is true about this free gift of eternal life. Jesus Christ has already paid the penalty for your sin, but without receiving this gift, it accomplishes nothing for you.
If you'd like to receive the free gift of salvation through Jesus Christ, simply bow your head, and pray, asking Christ to forgive you of your sin, and accepting His death, burrial, and resurrection as payment for your sin. You may pray something simular to the following:
Dear Lord, I know that I'm a sinner. I know that I dont deserve Heaven, or your free gift of salvation, but I believe what your Word says about Jesus coming to this world and dying on the cross for my sin. I ask that you'd forgive me of my sin, and take me to Heaven when I die. Thank you Jesus. Amen.
